Woke up wee small hours Tues 4th July....3 non-birder family members
sick with cold....2 birders...myself and Jack(10) not sick (yet)....idea!
GHL....885 km to Burren Junction.. Found bird within a minute ~20m north of the
road before the silo....
......S30deg06'16.2" E148deg57'41.0".....3:45pm 4-7-06....Jack was already
looking
outside with binos through the window.....his last baby tooth coincidentally
fell out just then
actually was stopping the car to start looking.....Jack, who had done the
reseach on GHL
and printed off the photos casually said , "It does have a sore leg Dad"
Quick look myself.... took first photo from the car before
getting out....cramped up after 3 or 4 hours driving whilst trying to adjust
myself with
camera...seat belt still on.....sensational bird....snack at the shop...a
couple of
mid strength beers at the pub and home....after a short sleep at the interesting
and soon to be sold Morree Spa Resort or similar......106 bird species for the
trip
and 1790km round trip.....funny bit of trivia....went a different more scenic
way back to Bundaberg
and was 1 km shorter....well you have to have your mind on other things whilst
going that far!
Thank you to the Karen and Brett Davis on your spectacular discovery and all
those
updates that inspired Jack and I to do a "Sean" and embark on such a crazy trip.
Cheers,
Bill & Jack Moorhead
