I don't think that Spotted Quail-thrush are that diffcult to see, here in Canberra you can pretty much guarantee to see them every time you go into suitable habitat in the mountains (Namadgi NP), they're quite common. I never saw one in SE Qld when I lived there, despite trying hard, I think it's just they're not as common as further south.
