Aplogies if this has been noted already.
I, at least, was surprised when walking around the Western edge of Lake Wendouree to see a flock of 204 Freckled Ducks standing just off-shore. Walking a little further I saw another 40. They were very close to the main picnic areas and playground. I covered very little
of the lake. There were also Red-kneed Dotterel, Black-fronted Dotterel,
Great Egret, Zebra duck and Shoveler.
I was coming back from the Grampians. Large areas there are virtually birdless except for Crimson Rosellas. Also Green Lake outside Ararat is almost dry as is most of Lake Burrumbeet outside Ballarat.
I've never seen them so low.
