AusBirders,
This last week I have noticed 2 Honeyeater species (White Plumed and New
Holland), sedentary to our area on the Fleurieu Peninsula (100km sth of
Adelaide), building nests
near our house. At first I thought this to be an unusual time to be nesting
but after looking up nesting details in Gordon Beruldsen's book 'Australian
Birds their Nests and Eggs' this apparently is not the case. White Plumes
will nest outside the normal July - December period particularly if there
has been rain after a dry period and New Hollands in some years will nest in
eautumn period. Temps around here have been about average for autumn with
some
recent rains so I don't see weather conditions playing a major role.
