Today Marie and I went out with Gavin Goodyear and visiting NZ birder Detlef
Davies for an early start at Maiala NP, Mt Glorious in search of the adult
Superb Fruit-Dove which was displayed on BirdForum Asia/Australasia Gallery
recently (see
http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php/photo/87474/sort/1/cat/528/page/5
subscription may be required)
Sadly we didn't manage to find this, but did see Rose-crowned F-D, Wompoo,
Wonga and Brown Pigeons, Noisy Pitta, Logrunner, Green Catbird,
Russet-tailed Thrush and masses of Scarlet Honeyeaters in a flowering
Quandong.
Two Sub-tropical Antechinus (formerly Brown Antechinus) were seen and
photographed.
Also we were surprised to hear Rose Robin singing in the rainforest
(...surely this is far too early?)
After lunch we had good views of a Square-tailed Kite over the
shopping-centre at Beeville Rd, Petrie and another perched in trees at the
nearby scout-den.
A very enjoyable days birding.
