Birders,
The recent report of a female Yellow-bellied Sunbird being found in a spider
web, caught, cleaned up and released at the Walka Water Works near Maitland
NSW, where it was seen again over two days, has prompted Edwin Vella to
enquire how many records are there for NSW.
If the Maitalnd record is accepted by NSWORAC, it will be 4th NSW record.
The other records are
November 1985 Female nesting in garden at Hawksnest and subsequently
re-nested January 1986 when eggs were laid, subsequently seen again in
November 1986.
1 Seen at Stroud on 10 December 1985, which is 37 km NW of Hawksnest.
24 November-7 December 2000, 1 in garden, 15 km SW of Macksville.
According to the Second Atlas, the usual southern distribution is around
about Rockhampton Qld so these birds reported here were a long way from
home.
