Double-Banded Plover, Banded Stint, Curlew Sandpiper and Hooded Plover
Lake Victoria, Point Lonsdale
There are currently several thousand waders feeding at Lake Victoria.
Amongst them are several hundred Double-banded Plover and a dozen
Banded Stint. Among the many Curlew Sandpiper there are quite a few
that are now in full red breeding plumage. It seemed unusual to see
several Hooded Plover feeding amongst the migratory waders.
Rod Corinaldi and Tim Dolby

Pacific Golden Plover Kirks Point
Good numbers on rocks during high tide. Probably similar numbers that
were reported on the 15th of February.

Long-Toed Stints (five) Conservation Ponds, Western Treatment Plant,
Werribee
These birds were easy to view as they fed close to where we watched,
they were quite stunning in breeding plumage, their head and back a
beautiful coppery colour in the sun.

Edward Point State Faunal Reserve
Little and Fairy Tern (a mix of adults still in breeding plumage and
immatures), Bar-tailed Godwit, and Pacific Golden Plover among a mix of
hundreds of waders and terns roosting right at end of point at high
tide. Worth the longish walk.
John Watson

Pink-eared Duck, Sacred Kingfisher, Crested Tern and Great Egret Moonee
Ponds Creek near Footscray Rd
There is currently a pair of Pink-eared Duck on the Moonee Ponds Creek
between Footscray and Dynon Rd. Also seen in this area over the last
few weeks has been Sacred Kingfisher, Crested Tern and Great Egret. The
Moonee Ponds Creek near Footscray Rd is only 1 kilometre from the
centre of Melbourne, yet contains some of Melbourne's best reed beds.

Spotless Crake Banyule Flat, Melbourne
A spotless crake was feeding among bulrushes on southern edge of
the "grotty pond" near playground at Banyule Flat yesterday evening
(Melway 32 F1). It could be seen from the gate beside bike-path at
northern end of pond, no need to jump the fence. Mostly it stayed in
dense cover but once it emerged and fed along shore for less than a
minute.

Sun 5

Buller's Albatross, Pomarine Jaeger Port Fairy Pelagic
Albatrosses were abundant but some petrels and shearwaters were
strangely scarce and there were no real rarities. A special highlight
was the opportunity to compare at least 4 taxa (in my opinion, 5) of
Great Albatrosses together at close range. We also had several Buller's
Albatross and a Pomarine Jaeger in excellent conditions for photography.
per Mike Carter

Wed 1

Ruff Paradise Road Lagoon, Western Treatment Plant
1 well-marked bird with dull yellowish legs- probably small juvenile
Ruff rather than Reeve. This means at least 3 Ruff/Reeve at the WTP
with red-legged, plain non-red legged and dull yellowish legged
individuals sighted over the past few weeks. Yellow-green legged bird
sighted around 2 weeks ago may be the same as today's bird. What was
leg colour of other birds reported recently on Birdline?
