Encephalitis found in Darwin poultry
The Northern Territory Department of Health and Community Services
says the potentially fatal virus, Murray Valley encephalitis, has been
found in chickens in the Darwin region.
The department says new test results discovered the virus in chickens
at the Costal Plains Research Station near the Adelaide River.
Mosquitos carry Murray Valley encephalitis.
The department is warning people right across the Northern Territory
to take precautions against mosquito bites.
The virus causes influenza-like symptoms and headaches.
