I have taken thousands of photos with my old Panasonic DMC FZ-10. Brilliant
little camera which I still use now when just stuffing around. However when
taking pictures of birds, this camera was fine when they were feeding,
however finding moving birds and following them can be extremely challenging
using the LCD, or the viewfinder.
It was only when I went back to using an old film SLR camera for a while
that I realised the difference that looking through the lense makes! If
only because of the clarity of the view and especially the size of the view.
In my panasonic, the LCD in the viewfinder was rather small, which makes
birds look like silly black dots.
Another really big advantage which I have found with my EOS350D is the speed
it takes to turn on, focus and snap..
I just use the 75-200mm lense which came with the camera (I have since
realised that I made a mistake and should have gone for the 300mm).. however
sometimes, especially on the moving boat, I find that the 200mm lense is
about as zoomed in as I can get without needing IS. So I am quite happy
with it.
