A brief visit to our local lagoon late yesterday afternoon, showed the usual
very large numbers of waterfowl. (Where else in this region are numbers per
square meters so high?) Numerous Pink-ears (c.300), with Hardheads, Grey Teal
and Shoveler in considerable quantities, a couple of Blue-bills, and Black duck
with juvenile families around. Many Australasian and Hoary Headed Grebe young,
and a Great-Crested Grebe with a stripey young one in tow. Also 5 Glossy Ibis
flushed out of the long grass by a Swamp Harrier, 3 Yellow-billed Spoonbills,
various herons and egrets, and c. 60 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers.
