Don't place too much emphasis on plumage - it is an unreliable aspect
of bird identification.
Publications such as HANZAB present average plumages. In reality,
plumages can vary considerably - over time and between individuals of
the same age.
The ambient light affects how the plumage appears and then the
photographic process can further alter appearances.
