Gees if only the
Button-quails in the turf farms (i.e.) Red-backed and Red-chested
would also walk out of the paddock and greet us birdo’s
like that. Such birds are certainly
difficult to flush and I’m probably walking over most of them.

Button Quail Warriewood Wetlands
Just a quick note to let all who
might be interested know that the Painted Button-quail is still at the Katoa
Close entrance to Warriewood Wetlands. I spent some time observing the bird
yesterday with Nic Bishop, Alan McBride, Tony Pallister and another local. It
was easily located and photographed. The best technique was to wait for the
little fellow to walk right up to you. At times I contemplated switching my
camera to "macro"!
This delightful female bird can be
located either in the grassy area before the bridge or foraging among the
casurina needles on the forest floor just after the little footbridge. It's
platelets are everywhere. I guarantee you that you'll never get a better view
of this bird unless you get one in the hand.
