G'day all
 
This was another regular topic during my time at Broome where dropping the "s" was quite habitual for some. My personal opinion is that although it doesn't bother me either way, I do feel that it sounds a little pompous to say "we caught quite a few godwit today". Of course, you can get away with it totally if you were to say "we caught quite a few Asian Dowitcher today"!
