Hi Birders,
After several sightings in the last few weeks of a large
whitish bird around my place, I finally got the bins on it this morning. To my
delight it was a Grey goshawk, perched high in a tree and checking the paddock
below. There have been a few crimson rosellas killed around here lately too;
all we found were a few feathers, and we thought it might have been a cat, but
the kills have coincided with the goshawk’s presence so perhaps it is
responsible. I never trust myself with a bird that Pizzey
states is uncommon, but this morning I made my husband look at it, (no birder
but with much better eyesight than me), and he agrees that it looks exactly
like the pictures in all four of my guides, so I guess that’s a tick for
me!
