Hello All,
Having recently sold my home of
about 50 years and having moved into a retirement village I had
resigned myself to a future of vastly reduced opportunities for
engaging with birds. Now I am not so sure. The new dawn chorus has
established itself as Eastern Yellow Robin , Little Wattlebird , Grey
Butcherbird Pied Currawong , Aust. Magpie , Koel Cuckoo , Eastern
Whipbird and Kookaburras. Last week whilst lying in bed , contemplating
the attractive outlook to the NE across Garigal NP I became conscious
of an anomaly in the Lillipilli tree about 10 feet from the large
bedroom window. This object resolved itself into an immature male
Superb Lyrebird perched about 3m up in the tree and not at all
concerned with my proximity. Apart from one sally into a nearby
Eucalypt , he remained in the Lillipilli all day but was gone the
following morning . I have since noticed a new bird call which sounds
just like a not- very- polished E. Whipbird call , so I might be lucky .
