A day birding yesterday (Sat 28th Jan) with a visiting Canadian couple (Gordon & Maxine McLean) within 40 mins drive of Melbourne (You Yangs Regional Park & Western Treatment Plant) produced the following 9 raptor species:

Whistling Kite

Black Kite

Black-shouldered Kite

Australian Hobby

Peregrine Falcon

Brown Falcon

Brown Goshawk

Grey Goshawk (white phase)

Swamp Harrier

[Other raptor species I have seen in this same area on previous visits include:  Australian Kestrel, Wedge-tailed Eagle, Little Eagle, White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Collared Sparrow-hawk, Spotted Harrier, Black Falcon – making a total of 16 species – and all more-or-less within sight of the CBD.]
