In my opinion it is just a slightly different Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, an adult. It is the young birds which have the chestnut crown. I wouldn't regard it as aberrant.
 
I did have some trouble trying to view the pics I think because the slashes in the web address you gave were sloped back instead of forward.
 
There are certainly some great photos on your web page. Keep up the good work.
