Is there an expert on the differences of contact and alarm calls of these
two thrushes?
The habitat, range, and height above sea level could have resulted in either
being present, and since the three birds refused to sit still at my feet, I
could not check the white in their tails, nor the tail lengths, or the
darkness of the scalloping, etc.
Not once did they give their "usual" call [too easy - I'd have recognized
those], but constantly did a very thin, high-pitched contact call and twice
gave an alarm call.
In reading the various field guides, I alternate between the two species,
and any contact or alarm call differences may be the only way I can be
certain which bird it is.
I'd appreciate any help. I'm due to take a bird observer group there later
in the year, so it would be good to be able to give them a definitive
identification!
