Hello All,
Wandered down to Centennial Park on Saturday (7/1)
afternoon, and was pleased to see 2 Australasian Shovelers,
both appeared to be eclipse males, at the eastern end of the Duck
Pond. Fantasticly close views as they were near the shore. This is
only the second time I've seen these in the park (and the Eastern
Subrubs).
Further along, I spooked two Double-barred
Finches in long grass underneath pines near the Kensington Pond, in the
area near wherer the footbridge crosses the pond from Alison Rd. I flushed
these feeding in grass and relocated them at the top of a small hill, where I
had good views of the two sitting next to each other on a branch in a large
grevilea and preening each other. A new one for me for my Eastern
Suburbs and Centennial Park lists, although they're probably aviary
escapes.
The Peahen is still around, this time sitting on an
island in the Kensington Pond. Overall a good afternoon in the park with
57 species recorded across 2 hrs. Cheers.
