Hi Damien,I also visited the South Island of New Zealnd recently, while attending the Australasian Ornithological Conference (Blenheim) and Australasian Shorebird Conference (Nelson). As part of an organised bus trip from Christchurch to Blenheim we also visited Kaikora. We did go on the Oceanwings boat trip and saw plenty of seabirds. We saw 5,000+ Huttons Shearwaters but no Fluttering. I didn't check every bird but the ones seen closely were all Huttons. The Oceanwings guides stated that Fluttering doesn't usually occur there. We did see Fluttering Shearwaters a few days later at Pelorus Sound, where we did not see any Huttons. We also saw Australasian Harriers everywhere we went. Regards Greg Clancy |
