Depends on the definition of tameness, but if it means at least considerably
more confiding and easily observed than generally experienced with these
species, then just some I remember are:
NT: Ormiston Pound campground - Spinifex Pigeon, Western Bowerbird
VIC: Mallacoota, Shady Gully Caravan Park - Wonga Pigeon
WA (south-west): Coalmine Bay?? Caravan Park - White-breasted Robin,
Red-winged Fairy-wren
WA (south-west): Cheyne's Beach Caravan Park - Short-billed Black Cockatoo
QLD: Lawn Hill / Adell's Grove - White-browed Robin
WA: Kununurra, Lake Kona caravan park - White-browed Robin (& freshwater
crocodile!)
VIC: Beechworth, Lake Sambell - Common Bronzewing
QLD: Paluma Coffee house - Victoria's Riflebird, Macleay's Honeyeater
VIC: Lake Hattah campground - not confiding, but reliably & easily seen -
Regent Parrot
Bob Cook
Mildura VIC.

Subject: Tameness of Australian Birds
Hi All,
I've been thinking recently of creating a list of sites throughout
Australia where birds have become 'tame', where observers can get good
views and experiences of species that are usually hard to get a good look
at in the 'wild'.
To start the ball rolling, i'll add a couple of examples of birds that are
resident in various campsites/picnic areas that allow you to get up close
and personal.
Victoria - Hattah Kulkyne NP - Lake Hattah Campsite - Apostlebirds and
White Winged Choughs
Victoria - Hattah Kulkyne NP - Lake Mournpul Campsite - Blue Faced
Honeyeaters
Victoria - Brisbane Ranges NP - Stony Creek Picnic Area - Brown
Treecreepers
NT - Manning Gorge Campsite - Black Kites
Please reply personally or to the list with any other locations you may
have observed tame birds.
Cheers,
Peter
