With the city of Melbourne as a backdrop we had a very pleasant morning at the Cheetham Wetlands near Point Cook.  The highlight of our trip was at least 50 Pacific Golden Plover.  There were  Red-capped Plovers, more Curlew sandpipers than we have been seeing at the Western Treatment Plant.  There were many Common Greenshanks and plenty of Sharp-tailed Sandpipers.
I am finding it hard to make time to go bird-watching as I am quite absorbed by Sean Dooley's  The Big Twitch, it is supposed to be a Christmas present but I have secreted it away and will only give it back when I have finished it.  It is amazing as I followed his progress on 'birding-aus' in 2001 and know the end to most of the stories but that is not detracting from my reading of the book.
