Dear all,

I frequently forward Birding-aus messages that refer to raptor behaviour to Steve Debus. When I sent on the one about the Peregrine with snake he replied:

"I wondered about the Peregrine & snake episode. Peregrines almost never
take any reptiles, let alone snakes. Assuming that the identification was
correct ...the most likely explanation is that the Peregrine robbed the snake from a Brown Falcon (or some other raptor, perhaps Whistling Kite). Brown Falcon is the main snake-eating raptor species in Oz. Or the falcon in question might
simply have been a misidentified Brown. Do you want to post something to
this effect on Birding-Aus and seek confirmation of the Peregrine's
identity (and let me know the outcome)?
Cheers,
Stephen"
