Just thought I should let you know that I have succumbed to requests
to make Birding-Aus posts restricted to members only. I know this
won't suit everyone, but the increased amount of spam has finally
convinced me that this is necessary. Not that this won't stop ALL
spam. Some is directed at Vicnet as a host, with the aim of forcing
messages to all Vicnet's clients. And there are ways to forge mail
headers so that even Restricted_Post mailing lists can be fooled
into thinking that spam messages are coming from bona fide list
members. But it's a start...
If you want to discuss this further, please do it OFF LIST - or
better still, go to the Birding-Aus Blog and start a discussion there!

I'm still investigating the possiblity of running Birding-Aus form
Yahoo Groups - or at least putting in a facility there for members to
send mail to the list via webmail for members only. I don't really
have time to do anything more about this in the next couple of weeks,
so for the moment we have Birding-Aus restricted to messages from
members only.
