Had a call on Friday from folks staying in high-rise units in Mooloolaba on
the Sunshine Coast, SEQ, wanting identification of 5 birds they were seeing
on nearby buildings. From their descriptions, I was fairly sure they were
Peregrines, and that is exactly what they proved to be. I had to go down
late afternoon after work, so did not see all birds. One juvenile was
perched, and I found the female in flight later, judging by size, but by the
descriptions given to me, it is a family of female, male and 3 juveniles.
There are seafront cliffs nearby, and I think that was probably where they
nested - or should that be eyried? What great parenting to raise 3 young
to such a stage.
For locals, there is good viewing from the northern corner of First Avenue
which looks at the rear of the buildings.
