A pair of Red-backed Kingfishers have selected a
small hollow in a Gidyea tree in our house yard to nest. At first they were
looking at one in a River Red Gum, but probably thought it was too big and Ian
observed them looking at the Gidyea for a few days and yesterday we watched the
male going to the hollow with food in his mouth so assume he was feeding the
female.
The Black-breasted Buzzard chick {mentioned in an
earlier posting} will probably fledge this week, but the Square-tailed Kites
are a way off as are the Brown Falcons.
