Maarten Hulzebosch advises that on Tuesday 8
November Gina Hopkins found an unusual Shelduck at the WTP Werribee.
Maarten checked it out and considers it likely to be an aberrant female
Australian Shelduck but is not certain and would like other opinions. It most
resembles a South African Shelduck, Tadorna cana whilst also suggesting
Ruddy Shelduck T. ferruginea.
Having entered down Farm Road and turned right onto
160 South Road, I was told to turn left onto the dry weather road [65 West
?], heading south to 260 South. The New Western Lagoons are on your
left. Turn right onto 260 South and after 100 m there will be a pine plantation
on your right. The next lagoon [on left I believe] is deep and the bird was on
the next lagoon which is shallow. The area is within the permit (an
essential requirement) zone.
Would anyone seeing the bird please report same,
attempt an ID, and confirm or amend these instructions.
