Does anyone know if birders have been asked to report dead shore- and/or
water-birds? If not, why not? And if so, have instructions for handling
(potentially infectious) corpses been made available?
I will offer one tip. Carry a small container of alcohol-based
disinfectant in your kit. It's no substitute for soap and water to
remove dirt and grime, but it is very useful if your hands are
relatively clean and there isn't enough water for a proper rinse. Of
course, a certain standard of hygiene is part of the civilised
lifestyle, whether or not that happens to include wrapping up a dead
duck. A couple of kitchen quality 'rubber' disposable gloves wouldn't
take up any space, either.
