During my morning walk alongside the Nepean at Penrith today (foot of the
Blue Mountains just west of Sydney), I had great views of a single Black
Bittern sitting on a log just out of a reed bed.

I have twice seen one in the same place over the past three years. Today my
camera was at home :-( After watching it for about 5 minutes, a cyclist came
past and it flew across the river landing among the vegetation on the Emu
Plains bank of the river.
