All,
Had an absolute ball at the wedding in Forbes last
weekend but unfortunetly didn't get to do as much
birding as first hoped.
Highlights for the trip between Armidale and Forbes
were several Little Eagles, Black Kite, European
Goldfinch, Dusky Woodswallow and heaps of Apostlebirds
lining the roads.
Around the Motel in Forbes were several Common
Blackbirds, Blue-faced Honeyeaters, Little Friarbird,
White-breasted Woodswallows and pretty sure I heard
Cockatiel flying over.
At Gunns Swamp saw heaps of Pink-eared Ducks (100+),
Hardheads, Hoary-headed Grebe, Blue-billed Duck (6
including some incredibly good coloured males), and
Grey-crowned Babbler.
On the way home made a quick trip down to West Wyalong
(Yellow-thorated Miner seen in town) where I visited
Charcoal Tank NR where I added Horsfield's Bronze and
Pallid Cuckoos, Chestnut-rumped Thornbill,
Brown-headed Honeyeater, Mallee Ringneck, Rufous
Songlark and Painted Button-quail.
Then drove up to the Lake Cowal area seeing one of my
favourite birds, Blue Bonnets, along the road, along
with White-fronted Chats, Brown Songlark, Little
Friabird, Yellow-billed Spoonbill, lots of
White-necked Heron, and Wedge-tailed Eagle.
Then made my way home through Cudal, Orange, Sydney
with no exceptional birds being seen. Missed the
Superb Parrots I saw at Cudal two weeks earlier.
Over all 92 species were seen for the weekend. Big
thanks to all who helped with infomation really came
in handy, thanks.
Cheers,
Grant Brosie
Morpeth
