Re: Ironbark Emu

On sunday i was driving through the
Anglesea heathlands and came down behind Airey's Inlet along the Distillery
Creek Rd. 

All of a sudden i came accross an Emu
walking casually down the road!  It continued down the road and took
a right into Bambra rd. It then made another right into the distillery
creek picnic grounds, and amused some of the picnic-ers. After wandering
throug the picnic area, it took a glance at the sign posts and headed along
the Ironbark walking track en route to Currawong Falls!

It was a surreal experience, and i'm
sure it would have been for anyone coming back along the track from Currawong
Falls!
 
Its an intriguing sighting, since i've
often wondered about the presence of Emu's in the area, since i saw footpints
about 4 years ago along the Anglesea River.

Tim Dobly also reported a single emu
back in February near Bambra, (http://menura.cse.unsw.edu.au:64800/2005/02/msg00122.html)
 which is most probably the same bird.  Its proably an escapee,
but its interesting that its possibly still in the area after 4 years.
