strange call?

On Sunday half way down Mt Budawang
(SE NSW) I heard a strange birdcall which I hope someone can identify for
me. Despite careful looking I could not find where it was coming from.

When: Sunday 18 September at
c.3pm.
Where: In moist sclerophyll forest
with a dense understorey of shrubs and an overstorey of silvertop ash and
another tall straight smooth-barked white gum with scribbly marks on it.
Altitude possibly around 800m?
What: The call itself was a single
'ch'k', 'tik' or 'chok' like call. Sometimes repeated. On several occasions
it would follow this sound with what I can only describe as a cross between
a cat's miaouw and a engine revving. And on one occasion it delivered its
'chok' call once, then its miaouw, which it then repeated in quick succession.
A truely unusual call.
Who: There were 2 Whipbirds in
the vicinity, some thornbills and a Crescent Honeyeaters further away.
My own conclusion was it was a new call of a White-eared Honeyeater I had
never heard before or a new call of a Whipbird I had never heard. I dont
believe it was a Crescent Honeyeater. The other possibility is a Green
Catbird. I have heard them up in Queensland before but I thought they were
likely to be only in subtropical rainforest and if it was one it was at
the westernmost limit of its range and close to its normal southern limit
( I realise vagrants turn up further south to Mt Dromedary).

The bottom line is I am completely stumped
as to what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone
has a wave file of a green catbird call they could send me that would be
a great help too.
