Hello Birding Aus'ers
Just an interesting observation...
Whilst out on a pelagic trip out of Cape Town on Saturday, 13 August and
actually whilst fitting satellite transmitters to a few albatrosses, we
noticed a immature White-capped Albatross pass close by the boat with some
sort of tracking device attached to its back!
The device was bigger than the ones we were fitting to our birds and would
appear not to have originated from South Africa. I know a number of devices
were fitted to birds in your part of the world, but apparently, all of these
birds seemed to have disappeared (or perhaps their devices just gave up the
ghost...)
Anyway, perhaps one of your birds has made it all the way through to visit
us here in South Africa. I suppose we will never know for sure? But I can't
imagine there are too many people around the world fitting tracking devices
to White-capped Albatrosses.
Hope this is of some use to someone out there.
Kind Regards
Trevor
