Sightings
18 June
There were 12 Brolga feeding in a paddock of new crop approximately 10 km SW
of Willaura, along the Glenthompson Rd. Thanks Grant Palmer.
18 June
3 Scaly-breasted Lorikeets with Rainbows feeding on apples from tree in
Highton (Geelong) garden. Thanks Jenny and Graham Possingham.
17 June
At Lake Burrumbeet there were 2000 stilts in a mixed flock of Banded and
Black-winged Stilt and 2000-3000 ducks, mainly Grey Teal and Pink-eared Duck
with some Australasian Shoveller and Australian Shelduck. Thanks John

13 June
On Queens Birthday Public Holiday, there was a Little Eagle struggling in
the wind at Spectacle Lake in the Point Cooke Coastal Reserve. The
Red-necked Avocets at Laverton Creek were still there as were the large
number of Red-capped Plovers. Thanks Vin Lam

4 Great Crested Grebe. Tait Point Lake Connewarre. Melway 481 H4. Thanks

1 White-bellied Sea-Eagle ( Imm/Sub-adult) Sorrento. Thanks Roger McGlashen.

There were 50-100 Red-capped Plovers and at least 6 Double-banded Plovers at
the mouth of Laverton Creek in Altona. Thursday 9th there was a Pink-eared
Duck on Laverton Creek just North of Queen Street. Also recently in the area
20+ Red-necked Avocets, Swamp Harrier, Singing Honeyeater and Buff-banded
Rail on the pond behind Mt St Josephs School. Thanks Colin Clark.
12 June
Along the country roads of Boorhaman North there was 10 Apostlebird, 7
Grey-crowned Babbler and a Barn Owl. Thanks Michael Ramsey.
12 June
At Brimin, 15km west of Rutherglen there was a pair of Brolga with an
immature bird, 2 Chestnut-rumped Thornbill, a pair of Red-capped Robin and
three overwintering Dusky Woodswallows. Nearby at Dugays Bridge there was a
flock of 18 Zebra Finch and a Pied Butcherbird. Thanks Michael Ramsey.
11 June
3 Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo. Bellarine Basin, Wallington. Melway 470 D

At Lumbys Bend along the Murray River there was 2 Barn Owl, 1 Rufous
Whistler (overwintering), 2 Western Gerygone (overwintering), 11 Flame Robin
and 1 White-bellied Sea-eagle. Thanks Michael Ramsey.
8 June
There were a group of 7 Orange-bellied Parrots at the WTP today. Of these 5
were adults and 2 juvenile. Thanks Peter Fuller.
7 June
1 Australian Bustard present near Pyramid Hill from at least the 7th of
June. Thanks Simon Starr.
7 June
Val Ford saw her first Pink Robin [brown bird] for the 'season' in Sorrento.
Each year she has one Pink Robin for some time however the date of first
seeing the bird varies greatly. Thanks Val Ford per Mike Carter.
7 June
The Werribee Wagtails saw a Major Mitchell Cockatoo on Drysdale Road at the
eastern side of the You Yangs. Merrylin Serrong saw the bird on Sunday in
the same area. Thanks Shirley Cameron.

A walk along management tracks in McLeod's Morass (behind the Bairnsdale
saleyards) produced the following interesting sightings; 12 Golden-headed
Cisticolas, 6 Little Grassbirds, a pair of Spotless Crake, 13 Red-kneed
Dotterels and a pair of Black-fronted Dotterels. Thanks Len Axen.
5 June
A pair of Southern Emu-wrens were observed flitting through Scented
Paperbark regrowth on the perimeter of the Marlo aerodrome this afternoon.

Highlights of the Port Fairy Pelagic trip were repeated close views of
Slender-billed Prions, both Northern and Southern Giant-Petrel together for
a side by side comparison at the back of the boat and an immature Northern
Royal Albatross that remained with the boar for the entire time they were
beyond the shelf. Thanks Rohan Clarke.
5 June
There were 70+ Gang Gang Cockatoos, mostly females and immatures, around the
new mountain bike course at Lysterfield. Thanks Giles Daubeney.
