Hi there,
As I'm sure is the case all over the world, listing is alive and well in
Southern Africa. We currently host 2 listing clubs on our website at
www.zestforbirds.co.za, namely the SA 700 Club (a list of people having seen
in excess of 700 species in Southern Africa) and the SA heading for 700 Club
(a list of people having seen between 500 and 700 species in Southern
Africa).
The Southern African listing region is considered to include South Africa,
Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique south of the
Zambezi River. It also includes territorial waters up to 200 nautical miles
offshore.
We know that there are a number of foreign birders that visit our region
regularly and have managed to see at least 500 species in the subregion.
Currently, we already have in excess of 40 people listed on these "clubs"
who do not live in the region but were merely visiting birders from
overseas. We really want to encourage as many of you as possible to count up
your Southern African lists and send us your totals if you do qualify to be
on one of the lists.
A full Southern African checklist is available to download under the
"checklists" section on our website as well for your to use to count up your
list.
We look forward to adding a few more of you to one of the listing clubs.
Kind Regards
Trevor
