I visited Barrengrounds on Sunday, the first time I'd been there for
some time. It was good to do the circuit, catch up with the
Bristlebirds &c. One amusing incident was in the little patch of tall forest about 1 km from the picnic area on the Griffith Trail (going along the edge of the escarpement first). There was a Lyrebird in full flood of song and I crept nearer, I was listening which birds it mimicked. It had done Red Wattlebird and Pied Currawong when my mobile phone made one of those little 'beep beep' noises it makes when it is looking for a signal, from my pocket. The Lyrebird flew off squawking. If anyone hears that same Lyrebird in the coming weeks listen to see whether it makes a 'beep beep' noise in its song. -- John Leonard Canberra Australia www.jleonard.net |
