hi folks,
Eight Freckled Ducks were on the tailings dam at Mt. Carbine, near Julatten on Saturday June 4. Also two Great-crested Grebes and a couple of Australasian Reed Warblers singing in reeds. There was a single female White Pygmy-goose at the water impoundment along Cobra Road off Tinaroo Creek Road near Mareeba, and at least 4 Black-throated Finch nearby, with Squatter Pigeon along the road by the Smith property. A good count of Aus Bustards on a newly cut field along East Mary Road, with 44 birds in the field and two on the opposite side of the road, with a further 8 on burnt ground by the main highway. One of the farms here is for sale so we can only hope it goes into eco-friendly hands, this is a very significant bustard area for sure.
Good birding
