Hi All,

If you are looking for a good spot to do some birding in Melbourne,
there are currently a 100 million (a slight exaggeration, but only
just) Musk Lorikeet along the Western border of the Ivanhoe Golf Club.
The sound of the birds calling was almost deafening. The main
attraction for the birds is the flowering Spotted Gum, however there is
a variety of other (prolific) flowering gums, including Yellow Box.

I spent half an hour or so searching and listening for Swift Parrot
amongst the lorikeet, with no luck. However my feeling is that if they
are going to be somewhere in Melbourne, this is the spot! Some of the
other parrots present were Rainbow Lorikeet, Eastern Rosella, Red-
rumped Parrot, and Galah.

The best way to access golf course is from via Irvine Rd or Casey St
(accessed from The Boulevard), and then walk along the Western foot
track, which borders the private housing. Keep us posted if you see any
swifties.

Cheers,

Tim
