For the week ending: 8 May 2005

Sightings

8 May
The highlights of the monthly Port Fairy Pelagic include: 1 Slender-billed Prion, 2 Antarctic Prions, 10 Sooty Albatross, a Common Diving-Petrel, a White-fronted Tern and a White-chinned Petrel. Thanks Mike Carter.

8 May
Further, a single Bush Stone-curlew, four Speckled Warblers, a juvenile Turquoise Parrot and a group of Diamond Firetails were seen at the Warby Ranges State Park. Thanks Aaron Organ.

8 May
Five Swift Parrots were seen approx. 200 metres north of the Readymix site, along Lancashire Road (east side of the Hume Fwy), Chiltern - Mt Pilot National Park. Other species of note include Turquoise Parrots at Bartley Block, Hooded Robins at Donchi Hill, and Painted Button-quails along Greenhill Road. Thanks Aaron Organ.

4 May
There were 2-3 Superb Parrots at the Watsonia Barracks. This is a restricted area. Thanks James Watson.

3 May
There was a Wagtail, probably a White Wagtail, at Mallacoota Inlet. Thanks Barbara Jones.

3 May
A raucous flock of 22 Sulphur-crested Cockatoos was seen circling over the Marlo township this afternoon. The regular sighting of this species seems indicative of its expansion into the Far East Gippsland area. Thanks Len Axen.

2 May
Interesting sightings that occurred during an EGBOC outing along the rail trail at Nicholson included, 1 Wedge-tailed Eagle, 1 Little Eagle, a small party of Yellow Thornbills, a pair of Flame Robins, both Golden and Rufous Whistlers, a very inquisitive male Olive-backed Oriole, and a single Darter perched amongst the riverside vegetation. 1 May
There was a Powerful Owl about five metres above the ground in full view between the track and the Yarra River at Chelsworth Park, Ivanhoe. Also Crested Shrike-tit nearby. Thanks Noel Billing.

30 April
On a BOCA digital photography workshop-outing to Serendip, six species of raptor were seen: 5+ Whistling Kite, 3 Little Eagle (2 dark morph), 2 Wedge-tailed Eagle, one Spotted Harrier, one Brown Goshawk & one Black Falcon. Thanks Glen White.

30 April
A single Crested Pigeon was sighted on the eastern end of the Stratford township. Thanks Duncan Fraser.

29 April
Flame Robins are not often seen among the dairylands around Warrnambool. Male and female seen today on bank of Hopkins estuary between Warrnambool and Allansford. Thanks Peter Tyler.

25 April
There was an adult Black Falcon flying over the vast section of dried lake bed at Lake Burrumbeet, west of Ballarat. Also hundreds of Red-necked Avocets foraging in the vast area of shallow water that is present. Thanks Grant Palmer.

25 April
A group of finches were recorded feeding on exotic grass seeds alongside Orchard Road, Hamilton Park (approx halfway between Glenrowan and Wangaratta). Amongst this group were 20+ Red-browed Firetail, two Zebra Finch, a Spotted Pardalote and a single Double-barred Finch. Thanks Chris Timewell.
