Hi Birding-aussers, with all this recent talk of
'migration' (passage), thought I'd add another little interesting snippet. I was
at Tom & Marie Tarrants place on Sunday the 3rd, to do a bit of macro &
bird photography with my digi SLR (a bit of Canon/Nikon rivalry going on there).
About midday 9 Pacific Bazas were observed, flying overhead (calling) and
gaining elevation, lazily heading north roughly following the higher 'ridge
country'. Tom & Marie are situated in the Samsonvale 'foothills' overlooking
the Samford Valley, NW of Brisbane. Tom assures me he records this annually, at
this time of year and has sighted larger parties. Tom & myself had sighted 2
of this species, presumably 'locals' lower down, roadside along Dayboro Road,
earlier that morning.
On another note, the next Southport Pelagic is on
saturday April 16th, with several possies still vacant. Tahitis still around,
first Providence will appear and last chance for Streaked Shearwaters 'til next
December. All welcome - cheers, Paul.
