Hi all
I spent from late morning to approx 4pm at a family picnic at Echo Point
Park just south of Roseville Bridge (which crosses a branch of Middle
Harbour about 10km due north of the Sydney CBD). Although I was chatting,
eating and supervising kids, I managed to see:
- 2 Wedge Tailed Eagles - reasonably high up but well enough to discern one
dark and one pale bird. They came up from the SE and drifted off
north-westwards. (Not a bad spot 10km from the City Centre). Given the
direction they came from and if they'd travelled in a straight line they may
well have crossed the CBD or N Sydney at some point.
- a Whistling Kite (busy over the water putting the wind up the loafing
Silver Gulls)
- a small group (approx 10) of White Throated Needletails over Killarney
Heights (NE of the water)
- a flock of approx 30 Little Egrets flew upriver at about 3:30pm. They
were just above the water and in good light so I was able to have a good
look at the yellow soles of their feet as they flew away from me
(Note despite it being a family event I had my bins with me and the eagles
were initially spotted by my daughter.)
Cheers
Tom Wilson
