I have information!!
My friend contacted me this evening and I have the following information.
Although he is not a birder, he is sure of the colouring (therefore an
adult), size, long bill, larger/heavier than two nearby Brolga.
The bird was seen on Good Friday.
>From Benalla, head North-West on the Benalla/Tocumwal road. Before reaching
Katamatite, there is a road on the right heading due East to Tungamah.
Head East towards Tungamah on the this road and (very roughly) 5 to 7 kms
before getting to Tungamah, there is a dirt road on the left, called School
Rd. Head North on this road to a T-junction (very roughly 5 - 6 kms). Turn
right and roughly 2 - 3 kms along, on the left there is a smallish swamp
(believed to normally be dry in recent years). It is on a property called
Sandbank, believed to be owned by a Chris Lawrence. There are a few farm
dams nearby that have been recently overflowing, so other swampy spots in
the area would be worth checking.
Another contact is the owner of the property where my friends have been
staying, about 2 - 4 kms from this spot. The property owners name is Keith
Rennison, (03)57485069. My friends names are David and Laurel and he
discussed seeing the Stork with Keith. Keith will know more about the
property where it was seen, in case the above info is not accurate.
Good luck to any who go looking.
