G'day,
I've been asked recently to provide an update on the two or three Lewin's
Rails reported on the Birds Queensland web site as being at Buckley's Hole.
I believe that records can be added to this web site without any
verification so my first suggestion when considering any record would be to
look through past claims by that observer and then decide whether you really
want to follow it up.The following translation table for the commoner
wetland species found in this area might be helpful:
Hoary-headed Grebe = Australasian Grebe (imm.)
Blue-billed Duck = Hardhead.
Great-billed Heron = Black-necked Stork (imm.)
Lewin's Rail = Buff-banded Rail.
Little Whimbrel = Whimbrel.
Pectoral Sandpiper = Sharp-tailed Sandpiper.
Ruff (male) = Great Knot.
Ruff (female) = Sharp-tailed Sandpiper.
Redshank = Black-winged Stilt (imm.)
Baird's Sandpiper = Red-necked Stint.
I'm still scratching my head about Pink-eared Duck!
Cheers - Trevor.
