Please excuse the cross listing but this might have some interest for
Canberra readers and also link to recent birding-aus discussion about myna's
brawling ability. Both observations were on the Western edge of Canberra.
On my regular long run along Chapman Ridge we observed 2 very noisy Kestrels
receiving a lot of aggravation from some galahs and an assisting Pied
Currawong. The latter was a trifle reluctant to get close but was certainly
hopping around the outskirts of the melee.
After summitting Duffy Desert (once known as Duffy Pines or Narrabundah
Hill) as we got down towards the houses I noticed a Black-shouldered Kite
sitting on a dead eucalypt with several hollow limbs. The limbs appeared to
be currently leased to 3 or 4 Common Mynas which presently displayed their
vulgarity by driving off the kite.
