Hi all
The Fork-tailed Swift is one bird that
seems to have eluded me for almost 18 years of birding. Yesterday I imagine
were perfect conditions to look out for them in Sydney. Yesterday, I looked outside at the sky a
number of times during the day (between 8-10 am from the backyard, around noon and at Prospect Reservoir between 3-4 pm (about ½ and facing the front as it
approached from the SW and just before the storm hit). Surely after all this I
would have expected to see at least one Swift (even a Needletail). There has
been a past record of 2000 Fork-tailed Swifts over Prospect Reservoir, so there
is always a chance that they could be seen there.
If anyone sees or has seen Fork-tailed Swifts
recently, could they advise where they saw them, what weather conditions they
saw these birds and how long before the storm?
My experience with Needltails is that they
can arrive even a day before the actual storm hits and not necessarily just before
the storm.
I am sure there are other birdos out there,
who have that one bird that they have been chasing for years that keep on
avoiding them!
Thanks
Edwin
