Our quickly arranged pelagic from Port Fairy hopeful of seeing the Atlantic
Petrel seen on 6 February went yesterday (10th) but our quest was
unsuccessful. Nevertheless an interesting trip. Highlights were a
Soft-plumaged and White-headed Petrel and an unprecedented number of
Wandering Albatrosses two of which were colour banded. Full report to
follow.
Interest was so great I filled the boat within hours and probably should
have run another today!
Incidentally there have been several unconfirmed reports of Atlantic Petrels
from WA including two from me. Skeptics argue that they are intermediate
Soft-plumaged Petrels. This occurrence is so well documented that this time
they will be silenced.
