For the past couple of weeks there have been a pair of black/white ducks on
the Nepean River at Penrith. One day they were with ducklings, but these may
not have been theirs as there were large rafts of ducks on the river that
day.

I am assuming these are escapees from a collection somewhere, but would
appreciate learning as to what they are.

Hi Mike

Someone's barnyard escapees I expect. They look like Muscovy Ducks, but not completely. I have heard that Muscovies can interbreed with the various not closely related Mallard-derived domestic breeds - they might well be Muscovy X Mallard hybrids. The longer-legged bird (on the right in the top photo) looks to have some genes from one of the more upright Mallard-derived breeds such as Indian Runner ??????
