That's just about talked me into trying to inveigle kookaburras to nest in
our tiny, 16 perch (pun intended) allotment. I've got trees. They
sometimes visit. Kookaburra nest box dimensions, anyone?
Australian aviculturists always put a ladder arrangement inside nest
boxes that are too deep for the babies to reach the opening while
standing on the floor of the box. Sometimes wooden rungs, or some wire
mesh, or even a few screws part driven into the inside of the front
panel of the box.
