John Darnell of the WA Museum tells me that on 2 or 3 January this year that a soiled and weak Black-capped Kingfisher Halcyon pileata was found alive at Merredin in WA. It was taken into care but died two days later. The species breeds in Korea and China and migrates south in winter as far as the Greater Sundas. A new bird for Australia far south and inland!
