Hoping to visit Sth Africa with my UK-based birding brother-in-law
later this year - accompanied by non-birding wives (so need some
flowers and "game" for them!)
He has been before (I haven't) and has proposed one of the two
following itineraries and interested in any comments from anyone who
has been:
a) Fly to Capetown; drive up through Western Cape, Northern Cape,
Namibia ( Fish River Canyon,Walvis Bay,Waterberg Plateau,etc., and to
Etosha Pan. Return to Windhoek , for an internal flight back to
Capetown or Johannesburg. Probably best September particularly flowers
in Cape , with some chance of seeing flowers in Namaqualand. Need to
avoid getting too late .. into "wet season" in October
b) Fly to Joburg, visit Kruger, Umfolozi, and Mkuzi ( reputedly THE
BEST of all the reserves for BIRDS). We went to Kruger in mid Oct,
which was probably about the best time for game viewing. Carry on to
Durban or back to Jo'berg.Would miss out on Cape, which is glorious
Thanks
Dave
